The Client
ESA Coach is an interactive weather station designed for sailing instructors that allows real-time analysis and recording of all data from the race course, created in collaboration with AstraYacht.
The Needs
AstraYacht is a company specializing in the production of onboard instrumentation dedicated to recreational boating and nautical activities. Always committed to researching innovative solutions for its customers, Astra needed to provide an agile and accessible method to interface with its instrumentation. This way, racers and sailing enthusiasts could monitor their boats and record their performance.
Solution
To achieve these goals, we developed the native iOS and Android apps ESA Coach and ESA Dinghy. Through the apps, users can connect to the onboard instrumentation at any time, perform all necessary settings directly from the boat, and view and record data in real-time, such as position, wind and current data, navigation speed, and much more.
Thanks to ESA Coach, sailing instructors or race controllers can also manage and monitor all boats involved in a regatta or, more simply, during a training session.
The app allows creating race courses by setting geolocated buoys and gates and remotely viewing all boats in real time, observing their performance and movements. The system also integrates an automatic alarm mechanism in case of capsizing of boats in the race, providing recovery information and allowing rescue teams to act promptly.

ESA Coach for Instructors
ESA Coach allows sailing instructors to transform their iPhone or iPad into a complete weather station: by interfacing with the instrumentation via BLE, it is possible to view real-time data such as current, wind, speed, and position through dashboards specifically designed for navigation, with support for WiFi and BLE connections and compatibility with the NMEA 0183 communication standard.
ESA Dinghy for Students
The ESA Dinghy app allows students to connect their Android devices to the ESA Dinghy instrumentation and keep basic navigation data under control. This data is also sent in real-time to listening instructors via the MQTT protocol.
Races and Training
ESA Coach is a platform that enables the creation and management of race or training events, setting race courses and routes through geolocated buoys and gates, remotely monitoring participant positions, receiving automatic capsizing alarms, and sharing data between instructors in real time.
