CASE HISTORY
Kaitiaki
App for the social network
safety of your children
The Client
Kaitiaki is an online service that analyzes and monitors children’s social media profiles to alert parents if dangerous situations such as cyberbullying, sexting, or hate speech are detected.
The needs
The main goal was to create a system capable of monitoring children’s social media profiles such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, analyzing their content, and alerting parents if dangerous or harmful posts or messages are detected.
Solution
Together with Kaitiki we have created a mobile App for iOS and Android multi-users (parent and child), able to link the child's social profiles and monitor the situation by providing quick and intuitive summary dashboards.
The mobile app interfaces with a back-end system that analyzes texts and multimedia content through Natural Language Processing techniques and categorizes posts, distinguishing malicious from harmless ones.
The system operates while completely respecting privacy and in full compliance with the European GDPR Regulation. Kaitiaki prevents parents from accessing their child's social profiles, but notifies them through a push notification system only if a dangerous post is detected.

Parent App
Through the app, parents can monitor their children’s situations at any time. The app allows access to the content of harmful messages and displays information such as the date received, sender, and message category.
Child App
Accessing the app as a child allows linking the social channels they wish to monitor. Supported channels include all major social networks and more.
Social Monitoring & AI
Once the children’s social channels are connected, Kaitiaki’s servers initiate monitoring processes on the platforms.
All content is analyzed for suspicious messages using Natural Language Processing techniques. A neural network trained to detect offensive, vulgar, or sexual phrases categorizes messages and alerts parents with a warning.
